Why I started Snoozy Paws: A journey to comfort for our furry friends

Why I started Snoozy Paws: A journey to comfort for our furry friends

When I brought home Hugo in 2019 - a tiny, black and tan miniature dachshund with big eyes and an even bigger personality - I had no idea he would completely change the way I thought about pets. Like any proud dog parent, I wanted the best for him. But it didn’t take long to realize that Hugo wasn’t your average pup.

A restless little sleeper...

From the very first night, sleep was a challenge. Hugo would toss, turn, and whimper no matter where I placed his bed. I tried soft blankets, plush pillows, and even let him curl up on my dressing gown (which he promptly claimed as his own). Nothing seemed to help him truly settle. As the weeks went on, I noticed he also struggled with separation anxiety - those heartbreaking moments when I had to leave the house and he’d stare at the door, waiting for me to return.

I spoke to vets, trainers, and fellow dachshund owners, and I kept hearing the same thing: comfort is everything for anxious dogs. They need a space that feels safe, warm, and familiar - somewhere they can truly relax.

Finding the perfect bed

So, I set off on a mission to find Hugo the perfect bed. I ordered countless options: memory foam, faux fur, orthopedic cushions, cave-style beds - you name it, we tried it. Hugo, of course, tested them all with his usual flair for drama, but I started to see what made a difference. The softer, deeper, cocoon-like beds seemed to calm him. He loved anything that wrapped him up and muffled the outside world a bit - something that made him feel like he was back in a warm litter pile.

It got me thinking: if comfort could make such a difference for Hugo, how many other dogs were out there struggling to rest properly? How many anxious pups - and their sleep-deprived owners - could benefit from a space designed with their comfort in mind?

From one dog’s bed to a brand

That’s how Snoozy Paws was born. What started as a personal mission to help one anxious little dachshund sleep through the night turned into a passion project - and eventually, a business. I began researching materials, talking to suppliers, and testing prototypes (with Hugo as the ever-willing model). Every product was inspired by his needs: warmth, support, softness, and security.

More than just beds

Over time, Snoozy Paws grew beyond just beds. We started selling calming blankets and fun filled durable toys, all designed to make home a haven for dogs who need that extra sense of comfort.

Even though he’s a little older now (and still just as spoiled), Hugo remains at the heart of everything we do. Snoozy Paws isn’t just about selling products - it’s about helping dogs feel safe, happy and loved, just like Hugo did when he finally found his perfect bed.

A final thought

If you’ve ever watched your dog curl up, sigh deeply, and drift into a peaceful sleep, you know the feeling - that quiet joy of knowing they’re content and cared for. That’s the feeling I wanted to share with every dog owner through Snoozy Paws.

Because when our dogs rest easy, so do we.
